Increasing your YouTube CTR

  • Sharebar

So you have a great looking video, it tells a great story and engages with your audience. You have targeted your meta data for your keywords and pulled in favours from friends to view and comment/rate your video.

But nothing happens!

So what’s the problem?

Is your video clickable?

Which would you click?

Your thumbnail may be letting you down. Now I can hear you all saying “I can’t choose the thumbnail in YouTube” and you are right but we have an idea of the timings of thumbnails. YouTube will pick an rnadom image from around the following places on the video.

25% – 50% 75%

People like to click faces! Curiosity is human nature so use this to your advantage. Think about early Facebook, Hot or Not and now the new author images in google SRPS. People love faces and respond to them. We have seen a 17% increase in click throughs by changing our thumbnails to a face.

So during the editing stage it a good idea to think about your timings. Have a full face, well framed shot at approx the 20% to 30% stage or 70% to 80% you only need to have one per video to make sure you have it covered.
